At Frites uit Zuyd, we make the fries we love to eat. Everything in our factory is geared towards ensuring the quality and flavour of our fries. We use Agria potatoes for our delicious fries. This variety has a rich potato flavour, is crispy when fried, and has a beautiful golden-yellow colour. Our potatoes are grown for taste and selected and inspected with the greatest possible care.
For four generations, we’ve been growing our potatoes on farms south of Amsterdam. They’re cultivated exclusively on clay soil in accordance with a comprehensive growing plan that ensures we only grow potatoes in the same field once every four years. All of our fields are surrounded by a flower border to attract natural enemies that combat harmful insects. This limits our use of plant protection products. To avoid harvest damage, we do not use large machines but instead harvest the potatoes directly into wooden crates.
The potatoes are tested for the correct starch content before preparation. We do this by accurately measuring the weight in water of the potatoes. A good weight in water means good frying quality; Frites uit Zuyd uses potatoes with a minimum weight in water of 380g.
